What’s in My Makeup Bag?

There is something intriguing about sifting through the contents of someone else’s makeup bag. It’s because you know that these are the essentials – the things that you need, otherwise all hell breaks loose! (Okay, a little dramatic I know, but you know what I mean) =)

Here’s what I have in my makeup bag:

  • Hand lotion
  • Rollerball perfume
  • Mirror (gifted to me when I received a gift card from Sephora)
  • 5 lip products (it’s not excessive, it’s a necessity).

Other things that are in my makeup bag that I didn’t include in the photos are: band-aids, eye drops, Halls, Advil, Tide To Go and a pen. See, I can be practical too. =) But if you want to learn more about the somewhat impractical stuff, then read on…

eos Everyday Hand Lotion: One of my favourite hand lotions to keep with me on the go (bonus: it’s paraben free!) The size is perfect for a makeup or handbag and doesn’t take up a lot of room. I do prefer the pink one more, but thought I’d change it up with the blue lotion. This one has a floral scent, whereas the pink one is more fruity. Whichever scent you pick, the hand lotions are effective at keeping my hands soft and moisturized.

Taylor Swift Wonderstruck Rollerball Perfume: Yes, Taylor Swift. At first, you may think the scent is vomitrocious and best suited for a 16-year-old girl, but I love it! I like sweet scents, so this is right up my alley. I like keeping a rollerball with me for touch ups because nobody wants to be the smelly kid.

Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Lolita: I love this lipstick! It’s a pinky mauve colour that I think would be universally flattering on all skintones. The smell of these lipsticks are divine (think the vanilla scent of a MAC lipstick, but 10x better). It’s a very matte lipstick, so it can be drying if you don’t prep your lips beforehand.

Top 5 Products to Use in Frigid Cold Weather

Top 5 Products to Use in Frigid Cold Weather

Oh hey. Long time no see. Let’s skip the awkward hellos and move on to the cosmetics. ;)

Over here in Toronto, we have been facing some extreme cold weather. Yesterday, as I walked outside from the car to my local drugstore, I was whipped in the face with -23 degrees Celcius weather. I don’t even know what that would be with the windchill. Needless to say, it’s cold and my skin has been taking a beating. But, these products have been helping! Here are my top 5 products to use in frigid cold weather.

Top 5 Products to Use in Frigid Cold Weather

1. Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil

This stuff has been a lifesaver in this weather! Instead of using a moisturizer at night, I’ve swapped it with the Tarte Maracuja Oil. I apply it all over my face and neck and focus the oil on places where I experience the most dryness, like around my lips and nose. If you don’t want to dish out the cash for maracuja oil, there are so many other oils you can use as a moisturizer – coconut oil is a fantastic moisturizer as well.

Keurig 2.0 – Yay or Nay?

Funny story. When I first qualified for the Keurig program through Influenster, I had initially thought that I would receive k-cups to try out. I told my husband that we needed to get a new Keurig machine asap (ours had broken) so that I could give them a whirl. To my surprise, I received a HUGE box on a Sunday afternoon and I was very confused about what it could be. I read the words Keurig on the box, but I was certain that I didn’t order a machine. I thought that maybe I had ordered one and forgot? Highly probable considering the amount of shopping that I do online…

It was in fact that new Keurig 2.0 machine. Sweet. I never had to buy a machine after all.

The thing is a beaut. It comes with a nifty carafe that can be used to be multiple cups of coffee or tea. It brews a great cup of coffee. I’m more of a tea drinker, but the tea is fantastic as well. We went from a single cup machine to the K300, which takes up a lot more counter space, which is limited for us, so if you are considering the K300, definitely keep that in mind.

One con — a major con — about this Keurig machine is the fact that not all k-cups work. We had a ton of k-cups that were not compatible with the new machine that we had to say goodbye to. I am disappointed that Keurig decided to do this. There are a ton of k-cups that I’d like to try that just won’t work with the machine. I did come across a hack online that would make the older k-cups work, but I am a bit reluctant to try it out because I don’t want to ruin my machine.

I think if most companies eventually convert to the newer k-cups, I’d like the machine a lot more. But right now, I am getting almost zero use out of it because the teas that I drink aren’t compatible with the new machine. For coffee drinkers it isn’t a major issue – there is a lot more selection for k-cups. But tea is quite limited unfortunately.

For two people, I do think this machine is quite excessive. If I were to ever invite a group of coffee drinkers over, the machine would be useful. However, considering that I’m a tea drinker and my husband is a coffee drinker, I’m not sure if the K300 is the right choice for us. I’d probably opt for the single cup Keurig machine. In other words, our old Keurig machine was better suited to our needs. It’s a shame it stopped working after less than a year!

If you are a family of coffee enthusiasts, this would be the perfect machine for you. I would definitely consider checking it out if you are on the market for a machine that brews a quick, high quality cuppa in the morning.

I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

My Trip to Inglot Toronto

If you’ve been reading my blog from the beginning, you’ll know that I love Inglot eyeshadows. In my post, I mentioned that I wished Inglot had a retail store in Toronto. Well, it seems like my wish came true. :)

The store is beautiful! It’s located in front of Eaton Centre in Dundas Square. However, one thing that I love about Inglot is it’s price point and perhaps due to its location (high rent perhaps?) the prices were a bit higher. I’ve ordered Inglot eyeshadows for $8 in the past. At the store, their eyeshadows are $10. It is still a good deal, but not as much of a steal as it usually is.

I decided to make another freedom system eyeshadow palette, but instead of an all matte, neutral eyeshadow palette, I bought myself some jewel-toned eyeshadows!

Freedom System Palette: Eyeshadow Review

428 was a colour that I had been eying for a very long time. It’s a colour that I may not wear very often, but it’s such a beaut! The rest of the colours were impulse buys — something I never do when I buy makeup (I always read reviews, it’s a habit!)

605 is a copper colour that is very similar to MAC Coppering eyeshadow. I would definitely say that they are dupes — you don’t need to own both. I’m kind of annoyed that I bought this eyeshadow because when I first saw this colour I thought it was so unique. *slaps forehead* I would say MAC Coppering is a tinge more rosey, whereas Inglot 605 leans more orange/rusty.

Inglot 446 is a beautiful plum purple shade, 414 is a shimmery emerald and 321 is a matte, midnight blue.

Pigmentation is great as usual. I noticed that 428 and 446 take a bit of effort to work with, but 605, 414 and 321 are one-swatchers. The colour I’m most impressed with in terms of pigmentation is 605 — it swatches so effortlessly.

Do you own anything from Inglot? If you’re in the Toronto area, do you think you’ll be paying a visit to the Inglot store? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section!
